Tonya manages the Research Area of Gender, Sexuality, and Health with in the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and the New York State Psychiatric Institute. The Area of Gender, Sexuality, and Health includes the Program for the Study of LGBT Health and the HIV Center of Clinical and Behavioral Studies. She works in close collaboration with Area leaders Dr. Walter Bockting and Dr. Robert Remien in coordinating programming, supporting faculty and staff, and facilitating seminars and events.

Tonya received her Master of Science degree from Columbia University School of Social Work, specializing in advanced clinical practice. Prior to completing her degree, she contributed to public health research both at Columbia University for the Evaluation of Disease Management Programs and at the University of Connecticut Center for Public Health and Health Policy.
