About us
LGBTQ+ health is an integral part of the Area of Gender, Sexuality, and Health at the New York State Psychiatric Institute / Columbia Psychiatry.
Located in New York City, one of the most active and visible LGBTQ+ communities in the world, and drawing on the resources of the Columbia University Irving Medical Center, our program is uniquely suited to advance the science of LGBTQ+ health and educate the next generation of health providers by:
Building a comprehensive understanding of the development of gender identity and sexual orientation
Developing models of comprehensive multi-disciplinary care
Producing evidence-based guidelines to address specific health care needs, and
Providing scientific evidence to inform public policy.
We bring together a critical mass of investigators, teachers, service providers, and policymakers from various disciplines who work in synergy to advance LGBTQ+ health.
We work in collaboration with the Columbia University School of Nursing and its Center for Sexual and Gender Minority Health Research (CSGMHR), a leader in training for established and emerging researchers committed to improving the health and lives of sexual and gender minority (SGM) people.
Out team in Lisbon for the 2024 WPATH Scientific Symposium.
